Excellent stop while in town! Had to try Rocky Mountain oysters and the service was amazing to do so. Helpful staff in allowing us to peruse the decor and take photos. Only had drinks and the Oysters, but could definitely see how the food and cuts of meats would be delectable. Will definitely stop by again next time I'm in Denver!

#11 for 2024 If you're in Denver there should be only 1 spot only on your shortlist of places to try. That's Buckhorn Exchange the oldest restaurant in Denver. They have been serving an exotic array of wild meats since November 1893. Serving 4 presidents and many celebrities it is a museum of the wild west home to rare pictures and artifacts of well known historical figures from many walks life. Men who built the west like the railroad men, silver barons, cattlemen, chiefs and Indians, bankers, gamblers like Wild Bill and Sitting Bull. Both had become life time friends with Henry H. Zeitz owner and proprietor. You can spend a couple hours easily covering every nook and cranny to look at everything. It is mind boggling. Once you get past all that there's the food. 2 years ago in Dallas I had a conversation with an acquaintance about exotic meats. I asked if he knew a place that served a variety. He did. He told me it was in Denver but could not remember the name of the place. He said it was not far from the convention center if I ever got there. If I saw a lot of historical items he said I was in the right place. 1 year ago I was invited to Buckhorn Exchange. My friend knew my taste and couldn't wait to see my look when I got there. It was a good size group my friend loves to entertain. When I saw the menu it hit me where I was. Staff did not seem it was restored to 100% service though everyone was excited. The many plates began coming out all received with sounds of "ooooo", "look at that" and "ahhhhhh". Almost the entire menu was ordered. Alligator. Mountain Oysters. Cow Ribs. Elk. Buffalo medallions and Sausages. Quail. Duck. Game Hens, Ribs. Service was good until it was brought up by my friend how the food was dry, over cooked, not how requested or too raw. None of the dishes were up to the standard he was use. All of us talking how we were disappointed. I felt bad for my friend who just wanted to a good dinner with good friends. This year he invited us again. I was reluctant to going but he said it's his tradition to go there every time he comes to Denver. Plus he was flipping the bill I couldn't complain. Again it was a good size group. My party of 3 was the last to arrive. Upon entering they asked if we part of the large party to which we said yes. They said they're waiting. Okay. I asked if they were upstairs in the back at the long table. They were. I knew the way and went up admiring all the taxidermy heads of deer, moose, jakalopes and more. My friend saved the seat next to him for me. I said I already knew what I wanted. Giving the rest a little more time. Bread was brought out with 2 different types of butter. It was a hearty bread, tasty. I had 2 when the apps started to arrive. The rocky mountain oysters were nice with the sauce and squeezed lemon. Not shriveled like before. Delicious. The rattlesnake did taste like chicken with a little more chew. It was okay. I wouldn't mind having it again but didn't care for this one much. Alligator I've had many times. This was not the best but acceptable. I liked the softness of the meat but didn't have much taste. I wondered how this would taste with a chilli oil and black pepper sauce. Now the plates were starting to come out. I started with a Caesar salad to get the roughage into my digestion. Nice creamy dressing helped to cool my mouth from the hot day we were having. My group had the elk, bison, buffalo, salmon and cow ribs. All served on big plates with your choice of mash or baked potato accompanied with steam vegetables. Each could feed 2 to 3 people. The cow ribs could feed 6 it was so big. I am so glad I came this time. Everything was cooked wonderfully. Service was excellent. They were very patient with with our large group. The salmon was moist yet firm. Tasty with the butter, slight citrus and pepper. Best devoured while on the warmer side. The meats were tender and tasty. You cut of a slice and just enjoyed it leisurely to absorb all the taste it had while treasuring the moment. Last time I did not have dessert but took an apple pie ala mode to split with my group of 3 this round. We hadn't finish our meals yet. We were full but didn't want to past up on this classic treat. Nothing like the warm baked applie pie to go with a firm vanilla ice cream. The leftovers fed us 2 additional dinners for the 3 of us. Buckhorn only opens for dinner. Check their schedule for the exact hours. It's also best to make reservations. In the main areas tables go fast but not where we were. There's really no bad table or seat but some prefer to be in the main dining areas. If you want to walk around to look at everything give yourself ample time before or after. They do close early so you'll want to be aware of that as you plan your visit. There is a parking lot adjacent to the stand alone historic building that sits in front of the old rail road tracks. Happy Hunting!!

I mean, you're in Denver? Why not eat at the oldest establishment in the city? AND it's got simply THE most amazing interior chock full of taxidermy. Whale penis bone that takes up the entire ceiling! JACKALOPES!! Oh and the food is outstanding as well. Bison ribeye is my go-to, but all the meats (exotic and other) are excellent. And if you've never before, kinda GOTTA try the Rocky Mountain Oysters.

We sat at 4 pm right after they opened. Atmosphere was cool! Showcasing hundreds of thousands of different hunted animals including elks, deers, birds, etc. service was friendly and our server recommended us to go to the 2/F to take pics with the hunted animals. Foods were a brand new experience to me and I've ordered Rocky Mountain oysters! First time had this dish and surprisingly it was good. Thanks to this restaurant for an amazing experience!
